Invisalign® – instructions for use

What do you need to know when you start Invisalign treatment?

In this article we present instructions for wearing Invisalign® aligners. You will find useful tips on how to wear Invisalign® aligners correctly and achieve the best results in moving your teeth into the desired position.

Basic instructions for wearing Invisalign® aligners:

Today many people choose Invisalign® clear aligners because they are discreet and convenient to use. Invisalign® is an excellent alternative to conventional metal brackets and allows effective treatment of dental irregularities such as spacing, crowding and other malpositions.

If you have decided on Invisalign®, here are some useful tips for wearing and caring for your clear aligners:

  1. Wear them at least 22 hours a day: To achieve the best results, it is important to wear your Invisalign® aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Only then will your teeth have enough time to move and adapt to their new position. Remove the aligners only for meals and cleaning.
  2. Pay attention to hygiene: Hygiene is very important when wearing Invisalign® aligners. Teeth free of hard deposits move more predictably because the aligners seat better. Good oral hygiene is also important for keeping the gums healthy. Clean the aligners thoroughly once or twice a day.
  3. Use suitable cleaning products: Do not clean Invisalign® aligners with ordinary toothpaste, as its abrasives can scratch them. We recommend ordinary liquid soap and a brush – a slightly larger brush, such as a nail brush, makes cleaning easiest.
  4. Follow the aligner change schedule: It is very important to keep to the aligner change schedule prescribed by your dentist. If an aligner still feels tight when it is due to be changed, wear it for a few more days. Extend the wearing time until the aligner has felt slightly loose for 1–2 days. If the situation does not improve, contact your dentist. It is important not to change aligners too quickly, as this could slow down and/or alter the tooth movement.
  5. When changing aligners, check that all attachments are still in place: Attachments are small tooth-coloured bumps placed on some teeth so that they can be moved more predictably. When you change aligners, check that all the bumps on the outside of the aligner match the attachments on your teeth. Occasionally an attachment may come off.
  6. See your dentist regularly: To achieve the best results, it is important to attend regular check-ups. This ensures that your treatment is on track and that you have all the information and advice you need to care for your teeth.

What else is important to know when wearing Invisalign® aligners?

Besides these tips, it is important to know that when wearing Invisalign® aligners it is completely normal to feel pressure and discomfort for the first few days after inserting a new aligner. This is because the teeth are gradually moving into the desired position and adapting to it.

The discomfort gradually eases, and after a few days you will notice that your teeth have adapted to the new aligner. If the pain is severe or lasts longer, consult your dentist.

Following the aligner change schedule and wearing each aligner long enough for the teeth to adapt is essential for the best results with Invisalign® treatment. Remember that your effort and patience will bring visible and lasting improvements to your smile and dental health.

Invisalign® aligners are an excellent choice for anyone who wants straighter, healthier teeth. By following these simple tips, you can enjoy effective treatment and a beautiful smile.
