Emergency dentist in Ljubljana

Acute pain, swelling or a dental injury? Call us – in most cases we can see you the same day.

When do you need an emergency appointment?

  • acute or throbbing toothache that does not settle with painkillers (most often pulpitis),
  • swelling of the gum, cheek or lower jaw (possible dental abscess),
  • a broken, chipped or loose tooth after an injury,
  • a knocked-out tooth – act immediately, replantation is most successful within the first hour,
  • pain and swelling around an erupting wisdom tooth (pericoronitis),
  • a lost filling, crown or temporary restoration,
  • bleeding or severe pain after an extraction or other surgical procedure.

What happens at the emergency appointment?

  1. Medical history and clinical examination to identify the cause.
  2. X-ray diagnostics in the clinic – local X-ray, OPG or 3D CBCT, as indicated.
  3. Treatment of the acute problem – e.g. opening and cleaning the tooth, drainage of an abscess, a temporary filling or splint.
  4. A plan for further treatment with a cost estimate.

What to do before your appointment

  • Swelling: cold compresses on the cheek (not warm) and rest with your head raised.
  • Pain: painkillers as directed on the packaging; do not place tablets on the gum.
  • Knocked-out permanent tooth: hold it by the crown and do not rub the root. If possible, put it back into the socket; otherwise keep it in milk or saline and come to us immediately.
  • Broken tooth: keep the broken fragment and bring it with you.
  • Bleeding after a procedure: bite firmly on folded gauze for 20–30 minutes.

When to seek emergency medical help

If facial or neck swelling is spreading quickly, if you have difficulty swallowing or breathing, a high fever or a facial injury, seek emergency medical help immediately (call 112).
