Ceramic dental implants

Implants made of zirconia ceramic – a metal-free alternative to titanium implants for replacing single teeth and short gaps.

What is a ceramic implant?

A ceramic implant is an artificial tooth root made of zirconia ceramic (zirconium oxide). Like a titanium implant, it integrates with the bone and supports a crown or bridge. We use the Z-Systems and Neodent® Zi systems.

When is it suitable?

  • replacing a single tooth or a short gap (implant-supported bridge),
  • patients who want a metal-free implant.

Whether a ceramic or titanium implant suits you better is assessed at the examination with a 3D CBCT scan.

A systematic review of 25 clinical studies with more than 4,000 ceramic implants found an estimated 10-year survival of 95.1% and bone loss comparable to titanium implants. Most studies, however, have shorter follow-up (Mohseni et al., Clinical Oral Investigations, 2023).

Course of treatment

  1. Examination and plan – clinical examination, 3D CBCT scan and digital impression. The implant position is planned digitally.
  2. Implant placement – a procedure under local anaesthesia.
  3. Healing – the implant integrates with the bone over several months. If needed, you wear a temporary tooth during this time.
  4. Final crown – a ceramic crown made from a digital impression.

After the procedure, follow the aftercare instructions.

Price

A ceramic implant with a crown costs from €1,950. You will receive an exact quote after the examination and 3D CBCT scan. Other prices are listed in our price list.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any metal in a ceramic implant?

No. The implant body is made of zirconia ceramic (zirconium oxide), which is white and contains no metal.

Is a ceramic implant better than a titanium one?

Not in every case. Titanium implants have the longest clinical track record and suit all indications. Ceramic implants are a good choice for patients who want a metal-free implant.

How long does a ceramic implant last?

Studies show an estimated 10-year survival of around 95%. Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups are key to long-term success.

Can I have a ceramic implant if I do not have enough bone?

Often yes, after bone grafting. Bone volume is assessed on a 3D CBCT scan.
