Myobrace® – myofunctional orthodontics for children

With appliances and daily exercises, the Myobrace® system addresses the causes of incorrect tooth and jaw development – mouth breathing, incorrect tongue posture and incorrect swallowing.

Which children is Myobrace® suitable for?

  • teeth are erupting crowded or lack space,
  • the child often breathes through the mouth, snores or keeps the mouth open at rest,
  • the front teeth protrude or do not meet,
  • the child sucks a thumb or habitually pushes the tongue between the teeth,
  • a narrow jaw or an incorrect bite.

The best results are achieved while the jaws are still growing, so an assessment is worthwhile already in the primary and mixed dentition.

How does it work?

Incorrect development of the teeth and jaws is often the result of poor myofunctional habits. The Myobrace® appliance, worn for one to two hours during the day and overnight while sleeping, together with daily exercises, promotes nasal breathing, correct tongue posture and correct swallowing. In this way it guides jaw growth and the development of the dental arches.

Course of treatment

  1. Assessment – examination of the teeth, bite, breathing and habits, plus photographs.
  2. Plan – we select the appropriate appliance for the child’s age and condition.
  3. Start of treatment – we show the child and parents how to wear the appliance and do the exercises.
  4. Regular check-ups – we monitor progress, check compliance and change the appliance when needed.

Success depends largely on wearing the appliance regularly and doing the exercises, so we work closely with parents throughout treatment.

Price

The price depends on the length of treatment and the number of appliances. You will receive an exact quote after the examination. Other prices are listed in our price list.

Frequently asked questions

At what age is it best to start?

Generally in the primary and mixed dentition, while the jaws are still growing. We assess suitability at the examination.

Is Myobrace® a substitute for fixed braces?

For some children it is sufficient on its own; for others it reduces the extent of later orthodontic treatment. Pronounced malocclusions may still require additional treatment.

How long does treatment take?

Usually from several months to a few years, depending on the child’s age, condition and compliance.

Does the appliance hurt?

No. The appliance is made of a soft material; it may feel unusual for the first few days, but children get used to it quickly.
