Crowns, bridges and partial crowns

Metal-free crowns in zirconia and lithium disilicate, and ceramic partial crowns (inlay, onlay, overlay), made from a digital impression.

When do you need a crown?

  • the tooth has a large filling or a crack and needs protecting from fracture,
  • the tooth has had root canal treatment and is weakened,
  • the teeth are severely worn or broken,
  • you want to change the shape or colour of a tooth and a veneer is not enough,
  • a tooth is missing and is replaced with a bridge or a dental implant.

Partial crowns: inlay, onlay and overlay

When a tooth is only partly destroyed, it does not need to be fully prepared for a crown. A ceramic partial crown replaces only the missing part of the tooth, preserving more healthy tooth structure. It is bonded adhesively, which further strengthens the tooth. We often use it when replacing large amalgam (silver) fillings.

Materials

Zirconia

A very strong material for crowns on posterior teeth, bridges and implant crowns.

Lithium disilicate

A glass-ceramic with natural translucency for front teeth, partial crowns and veneers.

Our crowns are metal-free. We choose the material according to the tooth position, occlusal load and aesthetic requirements.

Bridge or implant?

A bridge replaces a missing tooth by resting on the neighbouring teeth, which have to be prepared. A dental implant replaces the tooth without involving the neighbouring teeth and helps preserve the bone at the site of the missing tooth. A bridge can make sense when the neighbouring teeth already need crowns or when an implant is not possible. We explain the pros and cons of both options at the examination.

How it is made

  1. Examination and plan – clinical examination, X-ray and, where needed, 3D CBCT, plus a discussion of materials and price.
  2. Tooth preparation and digital impression – the tooth is prepared under local anaesthesia and scanned with an intraoral scanner, without conventional impression materials.
  3. Temporary crown – the tooth is protected with a temporary crown until the final one is ready.
  4. Fitting – the crown or partial crown is bonded or cemented, and the contacts and bite are checked.

Price

A ceramic crown costs from €450. The price of a bridge depends on the number of units, and the price of a partial crown on the extent of treatment. You will receive an exact price in a written plan after the examination. All prices are in our price list.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a crown last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, a crown usually lasts many years. Longevity depends on gum health, the condition of the tooth beneath the crown and habits such as bruxism (clenching and grinding).

Is tooth preparation painful?

No, the tooth is prepared under local anaesthesia.

Can decay develop under a crown?

Yes, at the junction between the crown and the tooth. That is why cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups are important.

Which is better: zirconia or lithium disilicate?

Zirconia is stronger and suitable for posterior teeth and bridges, while lithium disilicate offers superior aesthetics for front teeth. We choose the material according to the tooth position and load.

Will I be without a tooth while the crown is made?

No. You wear a temporary crown until the final crown is fitted.
